Thoughts

I have known Clive for over 20 years firstly working with DPJ days, then the transition to Sinclair Group. He had a brilliant mind, and great foresight, - I always felt he knew what was coming next, he did have a fascinating career. He was sometimes quiet in meetings, but when he spoke up everyone seem to listen. He loved telling us stories and definitely had a dry sense of humour. It was a privilege to have known him and to have worked with him. I loved listening to all his stories, and to see him laugh out loud remembering. He always had time for us and showed great compassion. One thing I do remember he hated Jazz music, it came on the radio once, and I have never seen him run out of his office so fast to get the music changed . Taken too soon, sending all my thoughts and prayers to Julie and his family. Just a few words from me x Helen During our usual Tuesday sessions that took place in Bridgend, we would always start with Clive. He would walk in, set up his laptop which was the oldest, most out of date piece of IT equipment in our group, yet he was never going to replace it, then start to put the world to rights. Our time would kick off ‘In the East’ as he would put it, discussing all things VW Newport and by the time Clive finished his segment, the world felt a better place as we all took comfort in knowing the challenges we were individually facing were also being faced by the statesman of the team, Mr Hyde. Clive gave a wonderful balance to our team, considerate, conscientious, methodical, passionate and perhaps my favourite thing about Clive – he loved the team that worked for him. I enjoyed being in his company both inside work and at any VW events we attended and despite him stopping me from talking on one lengthy journey to Henley on Thames because he disliked travelling with company, he was always great fun to be around. I will miss Clive dearly and am grateful for the time, patience and support he provided to me personally as well as all those colleagues that he has supported over the years, nobody ever said a bad word about Clive and in a competitive world that has a tendency to throw unpredictable problems at us, that’s one of the strongest compliments I could give. Rest up Mr H X Jamie ‘A clever and kind man who rarely said no to a sweet pastry with a strong cup of tea. We will miss his quick whit and love of Tottenham Hotspur! Thank you for some of the best years in Bridgend.’ Sophie ‘Clive was very quiet and unassuming when he first came to VW Bridgend, I soon spotted his Tottenham Hotspur mug and being a passionate Liverpool fan myself we bonded over our love for our teams, the one thing I can say about Clive is he had your back, and went to bat for the people he was responsible for, I’m grateful for the opportunity he gave me this past February when he promoted me to be his (Title) Manager having helped me develop my abilities over the previous 24 months in order for me to be ready for the next step up. Thank you for everything you did for me and my family, a very sad loss for everyone who knew him, love to Julie and his family.’ Gareth ‘Clive was a truly lovely person. Same as everyone will agree he will be sorely missed in the dealership. A true character of a person, who’s door was always open if you needed him for anything big or small. Clive employed me at the start of my Sinclair and will always be grateful for the opportunity. He always made every effort to speak to everyone and make a conversation whenever he passed by and had a very humorous side that will always be remembered by us all.’ Daniel Thinking of you at this very sad time Clive was a very quiet and gentle man who was dedicated to his work His presence will be sorely missed Carolyne The old saying “ my door is always open “ was very true with Clive. He was very knowledgeable and helpful and would always come up with the answers. I will miss Clive a lot. John I only got to work with Clive for 2 years, and only have good memories of him. From my first interview with the company with him making me feel so comfortable and having a laugh, to seeing him weekly and making jokes with him, his character will surely be missed. Sending my love and condolences to all his family and loved ones. Ceri Clive was a wonderful man to work with, he brought a great balance to our management team, a deep quiet thinker who was consistently grumpy, wickedly humorous, enviably knowledgeable but above all this, honest and completely reliable. I will miss Clive enormously and I speak on behalf of the Sinclair Group when I say there are many people that will always be indebted to Clive for his on-going support, help and encouragement that has genuinely helped them along in their career paths. Clive had several passions, none more so than his devotion to Tottenham Hotspur, who used to dominate Clive’s weekly picks often at his expense for his Fantasy Football team. He would pick a player based on loyalty to his team rather than current performance, says it all about the bloke doesn’t it. Rest in peace Clive Julian Open minded, Fair, Dry, Thoughtful and A Gentleman. Nick ‘Clive will be deeply missed. He was a wonderful boss and an even better person, with a quiet strength and a love for a balanced budget. My thoughts are with his family and loved ones.’ Jason ‘I would like to say from the team in Bridgend, and myself how sad we were all to hear of Clive’s passing, we will all miss him so much. Clive has been nothing but a huge support to myself, and the team, and we are honoured to have worked with a him. Personally, in my twenty-one years with the company, I was lucky enough to have learnt and gained so much from Clive, there was always another perspective that he would give to guide in the right direction. Even before, Clive joined us in Bridgend, he was always there at the end of the phone for advice. I really don’t know where I am going to go for my IT help, think I am going to have to improve my ‘Excel’ for the teams ‘Sales Boards’!’ Can I just say ‘Thanks you’ Christian Firstly, on behalf of all the team here in VW Bridgend, please accept our deepest condolences for your loss of Clive, I worked with Clive for the past 4 years at VW Bridgend, initially as a (Title) Executive but recently he promoted me to replace (Name) as (Title) Manager. I will be forever grateful for the opportunity he has given me, and thoroughly enjoyed the short time I got to work closer to Clive in my more senior position. Once again, so sorry for your loss, and hope you can take some comfort in the fact that Clive is no longer in any pain. Warmest of regards. Gareth

A poem by Amy **To Clive Hyde, A True Gentleman** In a world of cold and endless charts, Clive stood steady, with quiet heart. A boss, not by title, but by grace, With wisdom etched upon his face. Pencil in hand, he’d make things right, Turning chaos into clear sight. Numbers swirled, but Clive stayed calm, A steady presence, like a balm. Hands in pockets, he’d softly tread, And nod, as I was called ahead. To his office, where the air was light, He’d listen close, then set things right. When my rants would spill, in fits and flow, With words too sharp, too quick to show, He’d chuckle softly, no rebuke, Just understanding, no need for a look. A young woman, unsure and wild, Thrown into the mix, a bit beguiled. But Clive believed, with open heart, That I could soar, that I could start. With every idea, no matter how grand, He let me lead, a steady hand. No fear of failure, no doubt too great, For Clive had trust in every fate. A true gentleman, in every way, Whose quiet strength kept doubts at bay. He had my back, in work and strife, A guiding force throughout my VWB life. So here’s to Clive, whose grace we know, The boss I needed, more than I could show. A quiet leader, strong and kind, A treasure, in his own design. Sending lots of love and strength to Julie at this sad time x
